Journey and taste your way along the route of one of the most important Christian pilgrimages of the Middle Ages during a combined gastronomical walking and coach tour of the Way of St. James from Madrid to Santiago de Compostela with Yosmar Martinez, award-winning cookbook author who has walked the Camino four times. On this fascinating walk through history, you will visit the Cathedral of Léon, known as the "House of Light", and the Baslica of San Isidro and its funeral chapel of the Kings of Léon, picturesque Astorga with its Episcopal Palace designed by renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, Ponferrada with its Templar Castle, the former Roman Gold Mine of Las Médulas, and the 6th-century Benedictine Monastery of San Xulián of Samos. You will hike and travel by air-conditioned motor coach through the beautiful countryside of northwestern Spain across fertile fields, lush forests and rolling mountains while savoring the gastronomical highlights of the area. To complete this special journey, you will tour the city of Santiago de Compostela and visit its cathedral, built on the spot where the remains of St. James the Apostle were found, and have free time to explore this UNESCO World Heritage City which has attracted countless pilgrims for over one thousand years.

Hosted by Yosmar Martinez, Tastes of the Camino author.

Yosmar Martinez

Yosmar Monique Martinez is a cookbook author and culinary instructor who believes everyone has the ability to create a memorable meal.  From a very early age and as a result of having lived in four countries by the age of nine, her love for all things food have permeated her travel experiences and helped her develop an inherent culinary curiosity. After obtaining undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics and in business administration, she attended Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and interned at Pierre Hermé Paris. Upon graduation, she decided to focus on teaching as she enjoys sharing knowledge with others. It was this desire to share, after walking the Camino de Santiago, which led her to write Tastes of the Camino, a recipient of a Best in the World Gourmand Cookbook award.
She is very active in the Camino community, having walked the Camino de Santiago four times as well as the Kumano Kodo, an ancient pilgrimage route in Japan. In addition, she is a board member of American Pilgrims on the Camino, founded the South Florida chapter of the organization, and has volunteered at the Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago multiple occasions.
