"William & Mary: Alma Mater of 4 Presidents of the U.S., 4 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 16 members of the Constitutional Congress, 3 Supreme Court Justices, Jon Stewart, and ME!" reads the banner made and proudly displayed by Derika Mercer '91. On Monday, Nov. 14, William & Mary alumni, basketball parents, families and friends gathered "under the bridge" at the Troll Pub in Louisville before the Tribe Men's Basketball game against the Louisville Cardinals.
Despite the hard fought Tribe loss, the night was filled with Tribe Pride connecting former classmates, recent graduates and new friends. Alumni also had the pleasure of meeting many of the parents and families of the Tribe men's basketball team.
John Fendig J.D. '90 remarked how great it was to cheer on the Tribe this far west. Taylor Hodge '14 and Sean Akin '12 (who met on campus and are engaged) are studying at the University of Louisville med school and dental school respectively. They connected with TJ FitzGibbon '10 who is doing his residency at University of Louisville. TJ was a diehard Tribe athletics fan when he was a student and changed his schedule to make sure he was at the game. Like Taylor and Sean, Lydia Bailey Brown '85 found her true love through William & Mary. Even though her husband went to James Madison University, they kissed on the Crim Dell Bridge during Lydia's freshman year, and eventually married at the Wren Chapel and held their reception at the Alumni House.
Derika and Jennie Hulette '90 are excited to continue to gather Louisville alumni to engage with each other, put green and gold in the stands whenever Tribe teams are nearby, and keep alumni and families connected with William & Mary.
