W&M alumni honored at 69th Emmys

By Mona Sharaf '19 September 25, 2017

It’s not unusual to see William & Mary alumni among the nominees at the 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, and this year was no exception, as both Jill Twiss ’98 and Jenny Hagel ’98 were among those honored.

Twiss, a writer for “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” received the award for outstanding writing for a talk variety series. “Last Week Tonight,” a political talk show that airs Sunday evenings on HBO, features Oliver satirically holding forth on the news highlights of the week. The show has been nominated for this award three consecutive years, winning in 2016 and 2017.

Hagel, is a writer (and occasional on-screen star) for “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” a weeknight talk show hosted by former “Saturday Night Live” head writer and cast member, Seth Meyers. The show was also nominated for outstanding writing for a variety series.
