When Forrest Pritchard, a seventh generation farmer in Virginia, published Gaining Ground, a book about his adventures building his family’s failing farm back into a successful business (which he presented at Greenlight in 2013), his story struck a chord with readers all over the country and hit the New York Times bestseller list. Forrest then asked himself, “If one small farm could inspire such a response, what might happen if we multiplied that number?” He set off with fellow farmer and photographer Molly Peterson, traveling across the country for one year to talk to farmers who, inspired by the promise of sustainable farming, are making viable livelihoods against the odds. Now, in a new book, Growing Tomorrow, Pritchard chronicles the stories of eighteen visionary farmers (sixteen farms, two bee wranglers, and one fishing vessel). Each farmer contributed his or her favorite recipes, creating a book that is part farm-inspired cookbook, part homage to the people who provide America with delicious, fresh food, and part call to action, bolstering the movement towards eating locally and sustainably grown foods. Pritchard presents his book at Greenlight with a talk and visual presentation, followed by a book signing.
