Society of 1918
With more than 650 members, we offer a multitude of opportunities to become involved, from diverse programming events to grant funding to student engagement. All are encouraged to join the Society of 1918 regardless of gender or alumni affiliation. Through our membership contributions to the Alumnae Initiatives Endowment, the Society of 1918 seeks to contribute meaningfully to W&M, and to foster a legacy of leadership and giving. We encourage you to explore this site and learn further about our initiatives and impact.
Our Impact
Across the globe, women are stepping up and becoming key donors to higher education through their time, talent, and treasure. William & Mary women are no exception.
Women made more than half of the contributed funds to W&M’s record-breaking For the Bold campaign. At present, Society of 1918 members have given nearly $850 million to the university in combined donations. Moreover, since the Society’s founding, female representation on advancement leadership boards has increased from 34% to 50%.
The Society of 1918 makes a direct impact on the campus community through its Investing In Women grants program. This program has supported a broad range of projects, including production of a documentary film, a study of women and Artificial Intelligence, and a weekend retreat for students with disabilities at W&M.
While the Society offers numerous in-person and virtual opportunities, our signature event is W&M Women’s Weekend. With members’ support, this popular event attracts prominent speakers and delivers engaging sessions that foster leadership and empowerment.
